How to Set a Festive Dinner Table

homedecor

There are so many elements that go into a great holiday party, and one key thing that really sets the tone is the décor. With the amount of stunning table design options that emerge for the holidays, it can be a bit overwhelming to settle on just one style, but we put our decorative minds to work to set a dreamy dinner table that is equal parts festive and chic. This rustic winter theme is a nice change from a more obviously Christmas-themed table, and will make your holiday party unforgettable – or at least Instagram-worthy.

Tip 1: Decide on a colour palette. A good rule of thumb is to choose a base of either cool or warm tones, and select one standout colour. We went with cool, wintery colours – moody purple, blue, and grey – accented by white and silver. If you prefer warm colours, try pairing deep reds and oranges with gold or bronze. Go with your personal preference, just avoid mixing too many colours into the palette! Less is always more.

Tip 2: To give your setting a rustic vibe like we did, try incorporating earthy touches. Wood platters and dishes made from natural materials like bamboo and marble are a perfect fit. Acorns scattered around the table are whimsical, pretty, and highly-photographable, for that perfect Instagram-opp.

Tip 3: Mix different shapes and heights to keep things interesting. We used a simple tablecloth as a base, and scattered candles of varying sizes in random arrangements to add depth and dimension. Choosing an array of shapes (a rectangular serving board, circular bowls, geometric candles, etc.) will also make the table more visually appealing.

Tip 4: Make sure you have enough wine glasses and spare napkins around the table that you won’t need to get up and find more. We’ll leave the bartending up to you! ;)

Tip 5: Now is the time of year to add a little sparkle! Metallic candles give the table a festive feel – especially next to delicate snowflake ornaments. Depending on how formal the occasion is, silver napkin rings add a touch of elegance that will make your guests feel extra special.

All that’s left now is the perfect outfit! Check out these ideas for holiday party looks.
