Need some ideas for hikes near Winnipeg?
1. Head west from Winnipeg to Spruce Woods Provincial Park and hike Spirit Sands and The Devil’s Punchbowl. The wind-swept sand dunes here are like nothing else you’ll find in Manitoba.
2. If you’re open to a longer drive and an overnight stay, Riding Mountain National Park has kilometres and kilometres of beautiful hiking trails around lakes and all over the Manitoba Escarpment. Look for the 8 sets of red Adirondack chairs set up at some of the park’s most scenic spots!
3. Whiteshell Provincial Park, located east of Winnipeg, has many beautiful options as well in a Canadian Shield landscape that makes these hikes very different from either location mentioned above. You’ll find sections of the Mantario Trail in the Whiteshell.
There are of course many, many other great places to get your boots on the ground in Manitoba, both near Winnipeg and across the province. We’d love to hear about your favourite hiking spots! Share them with us on Instagram or Facebook so that others can check them out. And don’t forget that right in Winnipeg you can check out Assiniboine Forest and FortWhyte Alive when you need a quick escape to nature.
