Yes, skinny jeans have been ubiquitous for a solid decade now, and yes, our closet is full of them too. But is it too much? Have we gone too far? Are we getting a little tired of super-stretch denim? If you, like us, are ready to not necessarily throw out your skinnies but maybe clear a little space on the shelf for something a little more relaxed, then this post is for you, friend. Here are three styles of boyfriend jeans that have us feeling a little more Jennifer Aniston than Jennifer Lopez this spring.

The denim styles
While scouring our halls for the perfect relaxed fits, we noticed three trends among the boyfriend jeans we found. First, rips and tears are just as popular in looser fits as is in your favourite skinnies. We love a distressed pair juxtaposed with the most perfectly girly accessories.

Secondly, the cropped length is all the rage this summer, especially in looser fits. We’re not talking the ankle length that we’ve been seeing in skinnies for several seasons now; these styles are going one step further (or higher?) by showing calf, rather than just ankle. We love that this makes it a little more practical to wear our favourite jeans through the warm months of summer!

Lastly, you’ll likely see a lot of the raw-edge hem trend this season, a detail that adds interest and goes perfectly with the cropped length we’re seeing everywhere.

Other pretty embellishments like embroidery are out there too, but don’t worry – if you’re in the market for a perfectly classic, utterly unembellished pair of boyfriend jeans, you can still find those as well (thanks for coming through, RW&Co!).

The rest of the look
We have a thing for pairing our boyfriend jeans with our girliest accessories in the brightest colours. If that’s not your vibe, a simple pair of low-top Chucks or Vans will look great, with the added bonus that you can walk or be on your feet all day.

And since we’ve been wearing those high-rise skinnies with cropped tees for awhile now, we took this opportunity to play with some longer tops with fun details like ties and off-the-shoulder styles – because, why not?
