Anatomy of an Outfit: Bella Hadid

fashion

Anyone else want to raid Bella Hadid’s closet? Professionally speaking, she’s on fire right now, walking runways and landing campaigns for Dior, Victoria’s Secret, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein. But it’s her incredibly cool off-duty style that we can’t get enough of. Bella is a major fashion risk-taker and we love how she can stun in something completely new, or make throwback trends feel cool and updated. So can we take a cue (or two) from Bella in our own sartorial choices? Challenge accepted – here’s our take on how to recreate one of our favourite of Bella’s off-duty looks.

The elements: patchwork jeans + cropped sweater + choker + sparkly heels

Patchwork jeans: Bella likes to find eclectic, borderline out-there pieces and not only make them work, but make them look high fashion. At first glance, patchwork jeans may seem a bit intimidating… but this is Bella Hadid we’re talking about, and that means you’re going to have to be a little brave. Two-tone denim is in right now, and this pair is super wearable and has a laidback-yet-intentional vibe that we’re obsessed with. To get Bella’s ankle length hem – and show off your shoes – make use of a little trick from the ‘80s and peg your jeans.

Cropped sweater: We might not all be as daring as Bella when it comes to showing skin, but we found the perfect cropped sweater that we’re totally comfortable wearing. The light blue colour is key to the matchy-matchy effect of this look, and that sliver of skin feels just daring enough.

Sparkly heels: We love how Bella juxtaposed the ultra-casual patched jeans and cropped sweater with ultra-glitzy accessories in icy silver to take this look to the next level. Feel free to go for a shorter kitten heel with a bit of grounding weight since the pants are cuffed.

Choker: We can thank Bella and her equally gorgeous sister Gigi for bringing the choker back, an accessory which doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. It’s hard to spot Bella without some bling around her neck, and we love how she went for a thicker silver option instead of the usual black velvet choker. We highly recommend wearing your hair in a sleek pony to finish off the transformation.

Why it works: What makes this outfit so stylish is the juxtaposition between dressy and casual, and the subtle early ‘00s throwbacks. The styling is genius because you could wear this look for a night out, or for a casual hang. The trick is to play with textures and lengths to see what works for you, and makes you feel your best. The whole thing is totally Instagram-worthy – and Bella would know. Give her feed a scroll for endless cool-girl fashion inspo.
