Trend Highlight: Embroidery

fashion

The embroidery trend has been everywhere for awhile now, and shows no signs of slowing down. This trend started on the Fall 2017 runways and has since made an appearance in pretty much every store in the Centre until it’s become impossible to miss. If you’re still crushing on embroidery – or have finally caved to its ubiquitous presence -– check out this collection of big and small ways to try the trend, and some things to keep in mind.

Embroidery doesn’t have to be ‘girly’
While you might first assume that embroidery will cater to a more feminine and “ladylike” style, some of our favourite uses of embroidery are on less expected pieces, like distressed jeans or a bomber jacket.

Less is probably more here
Too much of a good thing is a thing, after all, and when it comes to embellishments like these, it’s likely best to stick to one piece at a time. Competing embroidered elements on multiple pieces will tend to distract from rather than compliment one another.

Accessories can play this game too
In fact, accessories are one of the easiest ways to wear any trend – go with a fairly classic or monochromatic look and add an embellished shoe, bag, or patch to add an element of surprise and a little fun.

Don’t fill your WHOLE closet
Remember that trends come and go. Unless embroidery is literally your everything and you’re never going to be over it, we’d suggest picking up one or two pieces to mix in with your existing wardrobe vs replacing everything you own with embroidered versions. All in moderation, friends!

If you’re trying the trend, find us on Instagram and let us know! We’d love to see you wearing it, or hear your ideas for other trends to highlight.
