3 Ways to Wear Luxe Textures

fashion

Great style doesn’t have to be complicated, and one of the simplest ways to expand your fashion horizons with minimal effort is to start paying more attention to textures. Luckily, fall/winter is the perfect time of year to do that, since knits, weaves, faux fur, and all other manner of textures are everywhere, and layering is basically mandatory. Starting with a simple black-and-white colour palette, we’ve got three looks that show off three easy steps to using texture as the star of your sartorial show.

Step 1: Pick your key piece

Whether it’s a shearling-lined, butter-soft pleather jacket, ankle-grazing culottes, or a high-gloss vinyl mini, the first step is to decide on the one show-stopping, jaw-dropping, conversation-starting piece you’re going to build your look around. Find a texture you love on a piece you love, and start there.

Step 2: Build around it

Now it’s time to get creative by finishing the rest of your base look using contrasting textures to your key piece – remember that you want to let that item take centre stage. Pair that soft shearling and pleather with the rougher texture of twill pants and a crisp cotton button-up for a very cool menswear-inspired style. Contrast trendy culottes with a simple large-knit sweater, or off-set the vinyl shine of a leg-baring miniskirt with a super matte, super soft turtleneck.

Step 3: Go for it with accessories

Accessories are literally the easiest way to have fun, try out trends, and experiment with your look in any scenario – in this case, they’re a great opportunity to really go for it and layer on the textures. Whether it’s a fur-edged ankle boot, a tweed conductor's cap, or a fuzzy beret, the accessories are going to take your look to the next level, so have fun and be a little bold! Side note – this is also a great way to add pops of colour to an otherwise monochromatic look.

Whether you’re the daring type, or subtly is more your speed, a little attention to texture can seriously change your game.  And while you’re at it, take a look through these winter jewellery trends to add some sparkle to your texture play!
