How To Style This Season’s Coolest Denim Trends

fashion

Even though denim is always in style, denim trends always seem to be changing. High-waisted or low-waisted? Skinny or flare? Is coloured denim still a thing? What about jean jackets and tops? Don’t worry, we’re covering all the bases. Here are three stunning outfits that feature our favourite denim trends of the moment.

Trend #1: Paint splatter denim

The splattered paint look is huge right now and it’s satisfying our current love for ‘80s throwback fashion. We found the denim shirt of our dreams – in the men’s section! – that is really fun and colourful with splashes of white, yellow, and red. To make the larger men’s fit more wearable, tuck in the shirt at the front, and cuff the sleeves a few times. We opted for more eclectic pieces to dress up the shirt, like these great cropped pants with bobbles on the hem, and played up the colours in the paint by adding silver accessories to make the white splatters pop, and a red crocodile bag to bring out the dashes of red.

Trend #2: Red denim

Colourful jeans? Yes, please. These deep red pants are giving us major laid-back, surfer girl vibes. *insert heart eyes emoji* Colourful denim was huge a few years back, but right now we’re seeing a definite surge of red denim. Choosing red jeans for this casual look feels cooler and a little edgier than bright blue, but less stark than black. High-waisted jeans are still going strong and they always look great with a tucked-in slogan tee. You could really wear any shoe with this look depending on your mood, but a pair of classic white Converse with red trim play off this slogan tee especially well. For bonus style points, try wrapping the laces around your ankle and making the bow at the back of the shoe.

Trend #3: Denim-on-denim

Denim-on-denim continues to be a trend that everyone loves – even though it can be intimidating to pull off. One trick to make the Canadian tuxedo a little more wearable is to pair different shades of denim together, versus wearing the same shade top-to-bottom. We love the idea of buttoning a denim jacket to the top and wearing it like a shirt – just make sure your jeans are high enough that the jacket just overlaps the waistband. Wear it over a simple bodysuit for practicality and comfort, while keeping that minimal look.
