The Perfect Bras For Hard-to-Wear Dresses

fashion

So you bought a cute dress, but don’t know what to wear underneath? Don’t worry – we’ve all been there. But just because your dress doesn’t mesh with a typical bra, doesn't mean it has to sit in the back of your closet. Whether you’re working with a plunging neckline or trying out the off-the-shoulder trend, we did our homework to find bras to work with the trickiest of dresses.

Tricky feature: Cold shoulder
Solution: Strapless bra
Why it works: When you’re wearing a cold shoulder dress, try reaching for a strapless bra with a ‘grip strip’ along the back. The cups are specially designed to provide better lift and support than your average strapless bra, and the straps are removable, which makes it a great option for everyday wear. Another alternative is a body bra – disposable adhesive cups that add a little extra support without the bulk (or straps!) of a regular bra. Body bras typically work best for A-C cups, and can be a great option for any style of dress where wearing your go-to bra is proving difficult.

Tricky feature: Narrowed front + racerback
Solution: Halter bra
Why it works: This lacy halter bra works perfectly with narrow-cut styles that show off your shoulders. We love that this bra is soft and delicate, but doesn’t skimp on support, with built-in molded cups. The convertible straps can be adjusted to accommodate the dress so it works well under halter tops or other back-baring styles. As a bonus, this lacy number in an intriguing green is so pretty that you can also choose to wear it with a top or dress where you want the bra to show.

Tricky feature: Keyhole
Solution: Plunge bra
Why it works: Most traditional bras have cups that would show when wearing a peek-a-boo dress like this one. Your best option for keyhole or plunging styles is a bra that has a low-cut, open centre. This type of bra is designed to keep you lifted and in place, while still allowing you to get away with showing some extra skin at the chest. Whether you’re wearing a simple wrap dress or a daring J.Lo-inspired gown (you never know!), this is a great bra to have in your arsenal.
