Why Is Charcoal in Everything Right Now?
beautySo we know Living Coral is the Pantone Colour of the Year, but it seems to us that “charcoal” is the shade on everyone’s minds right now. Of course, it’s not the colour but the ingredient that’s popping up in everything from skin cleansers to deodorants. So what’s the deal? We’re getting to the bottom of the trend, and picking out some of our charcoal-flaunting favourites – it’s just a bonus that they happen to be as beautiful as they are useful.
Turns out, activated charcoal is widely regarded as a detoxifying agent and has natural adsorption properties – that means that your body does not absorb it. In products like the ones featured here, the activated charcoal acts a little like a magnet, pulling dirt and oil out of your skin. Some sources also tell us that charcoal will even reduce the sizes of your pores, which is why you’ll see it in so many masks, along with other skin care products and tools.
Have you tried any of these charcoal products? Tell us about it on our Facebook or Instagram feeds! And while you’re feeling investigative, get the scoop on the balayage trend and why it’s still all the rage in hair colouring.
