How to Wear Spring’s 3 Hottest New Pant Shapes
fashionThis is by far the year of the pant. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally seeing a burst of creativity when it comes to dressing the lower half. No more basic black or grey bootcut dress pants as our only work-wear option…now there are all kinds of new shapes and styles to choose from. And the prints – oh the prints! Can we all rejoice that pants are getting some print love this season? Here are a few shapes that have really caught our eye, and how we’ll be wearing them.
The shape: the soft jogger
The outfit: soft floral print jogger + boxy pastel sweater + pop of colour accessories
Styling tips: With its gathered waist, relaxed cut, and tapered leg, the jogger is definitely a casual pant shape. But this season, we’re seeing it in much more luxe fabrics like silk and tencel, plus in prints ranging from the demure to the dramatic. This may seem a little daunting if your pants wardrobe currently consists of basic black and denim. But a darker, monochromatic print like this subdued floral is a cinch to pull off. We love it paired with pops of ultra-girly pink like these fun fuchsia gladiator sandals and the bright lip. A shorter, boxy, light green sweater keeps with the colour story and adds some definition to the waistline. This will be our go-to spring weekend look for a day of brunch, shopping, and crossing things off of our to-do list.
The shape: the wide leg
The outfit: flowy wide leg pants + cropped top combo + platform sandals
Styling tips: This look is all leg. The long, flowing line from the waist to the toes creates leg length for days. We’re adding platform sandals to take it even further! Perfectly polished with a fitted crop and short blazer, this chic look will take you out for dinner, to the theatre, to after-show drinks, and beyond. If showing tummy is not your thing (we get it – it’s not for everyone!), choose a topper that just meets the pants’ waistline to get the same effect. Fitted sleeves also help counter those super wide legs. Smooth hair and elegant makeup? We’re ready to hit the town!
The shape: the culottes
The outfit: dressy culottes + easy flowy blouse + slim heels
Styling tips: This is definitely the trickiest of the three shapes. But if you’re willing to step outside your wardrobe comfort zone, they can be made perfectly office-friendly for those scorching days of summer. To make these work-ready, think midi skirt styling. A tucked-in soft blouse adds sophistication, while sleek hair, slim heels, and a structured bag balance out the width of the culottes. Spring day at the office? We’ll be ready with this pretty look.
