How to wear spring’s 5 hottest shoe trends

fashion

Shoes….need we say more? Here’s a round-up of what we’ll be stocking in our shoe closets this season!

The trend: warm & dry
How to wear them: The classic rainboot is spring’s hottest pick to take you from drizzly May days to June gardening. But thanks to the resurgence of the classic British Wellie, fashionable rubber boots like Hunters are not just a weather necessity, they’re being snapped in OOTDs (Outfit of the Day in social media speak) everywhere from city streets to farmer’s markets. Try pairing them with shorts and tall socks for muddy festival grounds or with a flirty dress for Sunday brunch. Pick up Hunter Wellies at SoftMoc or check out Bogs rainboots at Quarks.

The trend: strappy & sexy
How to wear them: Some shoes were just meant to be the star attraction and caged sandals are one of them. Part shoe and part sandal, the intricate laser cut outs and strap details wrap around the foot to make a real statement. With a shoe this special, you’ll want them to shine. Amp up the attitude with a fitted bodycon dress and take your hot look out for a night on the town. If jeans are more your jam, go for a looser boyfriend style, plus a fitted blazer for equal sizzle. We’re loving the selection at Le Chateau and Aldo.

The trend: chic & easy
How to wear them: It doesn’t get any easier than slipping into a pair of espadrilles or boat shoes and heading out the door to enjoy summer in the city. Or summer at the cabin. Or summer on the beach. Can you tell what’s on our mind? In pretty pastels, fun florals, girlish crochet, and more, there’s a summer slip-on for everyone. We’re wearing them with everything – jean cut-offs and a slouchy t, striped tank dress and a lightweight scarf, capris and a polka dot button-down. Anything goes and you can find them everywhere – Boathouse and Stance have classic Toms, Aldo is rocking the hot spring colours, and Call It Spring has some great styles.

The trend: sleek & stacked
How to wear them: A sandal that’s elegant, supportive, AND makes our legs look great? Yes please! The block heel is a true style workhorse. It makes a statement without screaming. It’s pretty and comfortable at the same time. This will be our office shoe this summer, when scorching outdoor temps challenge us to stay cool while we dress up. Pair them with an easy shift dress and cardigan (for that pesky air conditioning!) or with tailored Bermuda shorts, soft blouse, and linen blazer. We’ve been window shopping this trend at Call It Spring and Le Chateau.

The trend: comfy & casual
How to wear them: Your feet will be thankful for the ‘ugly shoe’ trend (as it’s been called by others); you can finally walk a mile in your own shoes! But don’t be fooled by these simple styles – they fall anything but flat in the fashion department. They bring a relaxed earthiness to your summer wardrobe and dress down more formal looks. So go ahead and break out that special occasion dress, those Birks will keep things casual. We spotted some great options at Aldo, Quarks, SoftMoc and Hudson’s Bay.
