Are Dr. Martens (AKA Doc Martens) the most versatile, time-spanning trend of our lifetime? Brian Babaran of @i3rian27 finds out.

It has become very clear to us in recent years that Doc Martens – the quintessential cool-person footwear of the ‘90s – is definitely not only beloved by ‘90s children. The boot seems to be just as popular as ever, and it’s actually super fun to see how the style takes on different trends and gets worn by so many people in so many ways, while never losing what makes it so iconic. We explored this idea by getting Brian Babaran of @i3rian27 to style three different looks for us, centred around the beloved Docs. Here’s what he came up with.

Womens Dr. Martens 1460 Pascal 8-Eye Boot - Black $199.99 (Journeys)

Daytime/Casual Look:

A casual day running errands is now just another excuse to dress up. To jazz up your favourite jeans and t-shirt, layer, layer, layer. Layer your outfit with a button-up, a jacket, add a cool necklace, or a cute bag and you’re good to go. So next time you get your groceries, throw on your statement jacket and classic blue jeans with your Dr. Martens and there’s no doubt you’ll be turning heads at the store.

Corduroy jacket: $35 (Ardene)
Simple t-shirt: $7.20 (Bluenotes)
Classic Blue jeans: $13.50 (Bluenotes)
Statement necklace: $9.90 (Ardene)

Night out/Dress up Look:

An easy way to dress up a look is to go monochromatic. Whether it be a blazer or a bomber jacket, matching it to your pants will turn any look from daytime to night out.
I’ve paired a statement bomber jacket with some dark washed pants, showing that even a simple sweater can showcase the versatility of the classic lace-up boots from Dr Martens.

Statement jacket: $89.90 (RWCO)
Sweater with collar: $23.96 (RWCO)
Black jeans: $15 (Bluenotes)

Spring Look:

Now that spring is coming, why not amp up the fun and use bold colours and patterns with your classic spring pieces. Whether it’s your favourite shorts or skirt, a pop of colour on top with a staple piece like Dr. Martens is an easy way to jumpstart your spring looks. I picked this fun top to balance the whole look with the edgy boots. Creating two statement pieces from top to bottom.

Teal hoodie: $40 (Boathouse)
Tan shorts: $24.99 (Boathouse)
Belt bag: $10.43 (Ardene)
Fun socks: $9.00 (Boathouse)

If there’s one point that’s abundantly clear it’s that Dr. Martens can be styled to go with any look no matter the time of day or year. Whether dressed up or down this is the quintessential boot that everyone needs in their wardrobe.
