How to Wear Yellow If You Hate Colour

fashion

Not all of us scream with joy when summer brights start to reemerge in our favourite stores. If you’re a neutrals gal, you may shiver at the thought of wearing – dare we say it – yellow. We know, it’s an intimidating colour. But as one of Spring 2017’s biggest trends, we owe it ourselves to give it a try, and we promise you can wear it without looking like you channeled Big Bird. Let’s take a look at subtle ways to work this challenging colour into your wardrobe, with pieces that might just change your opinion of the summer’s most sunshiney shade.

To experiment with yellow in more of a dip-your-toes vs plunge-into-the-deep-end way, the key is to focus on your accessories. For a casual, everyday option that will go with almost anything, invest in a sunshine-yellow satchel. This crossbody bag is small and compact, but still packs a major punch. When paired with an overall neutral look, like this black miniskirt and white tee, it has the chance to really shine. The red detail in the t-shirt creates an interesting colour pairing that will standout in a subtle way, without dragging you too far out of your comfort zone. Yellow hoop earrings are a barely-there way to nod to the trend.

This bright shade can be dressed up, too – it pairs beautifully with a pale pink that mellows the yellow a little for a softer, feminine look. Hints of yellow in a print, like this floral clutch, are a great way to work in the colour without getting too extreme. Shoes are always a great chance to have a little fun with your look, and another easy way to inject colour.

And of course, clothing isn’t the only place to try the trend. If you’re feeling really adventurous, we encourage you to play with your makeup and try out a yellow winged liner. This is another easy way to wear yellow – one that looks editorial, and very modelesque.
