February is a month after our own hearts – and we’re not talking about Valentine’s Day. The longest, coldest month of the year is past, our new year’s resolution fails have already lost their sting, AND it’s I Love to Read Month! Now to be clear, they had us at “love to read,” but we fell completely when we found out that this month coincides with Chapters St. Vital’s application deadline for The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation Literacy Fund Grant, which gifts funds annually to a local elementary school for bolstering their school library. If you haven’t heard about this grant, we guarantee it will warm your heart on even the coldest February day. 

Since 2004, Chapters St. Vital has been transforming the libraries of nearby schools through the Literacy Fund Grant – their recipient for last year’s grant was Victor H. L. Wyatt School! Across Canada, 245 high-needs elementary schools have received a total of $19.5 million over the past 13 years, all used to purchase books and inspire children to fall in love with reading. It’s clear how important reading is to the futures of children, in everything from developing language and imagination to graduating from high school and beyond, so this cause is near and dear to our hearts to say the least.

We are so proud of the amazing impact that Chapters St. Vital has had on the lives of children in our local community over such a long period of time, and we encourage you to learn more about the Love of Reading Foundation and the Literacy Fund Grant, and consider donating in-store or online. Every single dollar donated by customers to The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation goes directly to our schools – what better way to spread some love this February?
