WATCH: 3 Statement Lip Trends

Summer is our favourite time to be bold and daring with our makeup. Lately, we’ve been seeing a ton of edgy lip looks on our favourite Instagrammers and we’re eager to get on board (and take our own #MUA-worthy photo). Whether you’re curious about glitter lips, ombré lips, or just want to nail overlining once and for all, we’re demonstrating how to do it right in our latest beauty video.

One of the biggest makeup trends this year has undoubtedly been glitter lips, and if you’re unfamiliar with this trend, it’s exactly what it sounds like. You can thank celebrity makeup guru Pat McGrath for giving this look momentum; models like Taylor Hill and Bella Hadid looked absolutely stunning with sparkly pouts at the Atelier Versace Fall 2016 Couture show. If you want to make your lips sparkle, all you have to do is invest in some glitter and apply it over your base layers with a brush, as seen in the video above.

If you’re looking for something a little more wearable for day-to-day, another popular trend right now is the ombré lip. It involves blending two different colours together to create a seamless gradient effect. You can make it as subtle or as dramatic as you like by choosing colours with more or less contrast, and as a side benefit, we love that the technique also creates the illusion of fuller lips. To make your lips look even plumper, you can also try overlining. This technique takes some practice, but when done right, it can completely transform the shape of your lips. Make sure you start with a freshly sharpened liner pencil, then line slightly underneath your natural lip line to create a shadow. For this technique, our pro MUA recommends starting with your lipstick, and applying the liner second to complete the transformation. Less is obviously not more this season! ;)
