How to pack for a weekend getaway

fashion

We love Manitoba, but lately we’ve been dreaming of a little getaway. Like book-a-flight-and-pack-your-bags kind of getaway. Something urban, with cute neighborhoods, a little sightseeing, some new eateries to try…maybe Vancouver? Toronto? Halifax? Our friends at the Flight Centre have the hook-up on a quick jaunt to your favourite Canadian city (and anywhere else your wanderlusting heart desires!). All you need to do is figure out how to maneuver your travel wardrobe into your carry-on bag. After all – you won’t have any extra time to wait around for checked baggage! Here’s how to get the most mileage out of your getaway outfits.

Find your key piece: Build your packing wardrobe around a versatile piece of clothing like this denim shirtdress. Dresses are a win because they take up little space, are a breeze to throw on and can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories you choose.

Plan your colour story: Choose to pack items in colours that mix and match well with your other pieces. Denim is a great neutral and we chose to make it pop with tomato red and sunny yellow, plus chic nautical-inspired accessories. Black and white with your fave colour is another good choice. Ideally, anything you grab from your bag of clothing and accessories should go together.

Let the weather be your guide: You never really know what you’re going to get (clichéd but true!), so plan accordingly. Drizzle in Van City? Blazing humidity in TO? No problem. With one key item anchoring your outfits, you leave room in your bag for cute AND comfy footwear like wedges, loafers and wellies. A fun red anorak and a sleek tweed coat will ward off any chills without sacrificing style.

Do double duty: Choose items that go the distance. A pretty silk scarf? Throw it around your neck on the plane Friday night, tie it as a belt for Saturday afternoon shopping, then wrap it around your hair for an easy updo at Sunday brunch. *Love that idea? Watch for our fun hair tutorial next week.

Have a great trip and don’t forget to post and share some pics!
