Style Guide: Winter Weddings

fashion

We love winter weddings! Not only do they give us something to look forward to, but it’s an excuse to shop for something other than sweaters, and a great chance to flex our styling muscles and rise to the challenge. To hit the right look, you need to consider weather, how formal the wedding is, and colour palette – among other things. To help you get ready, we’ve rounded up four standout dresses that will ensure you look your best at any last formal outings of the winter season.

Patterned shift dress

If you’re looking for a quirky alternative to standard formal attire, a long-sleeved shift dress lends itself well to weddings where creativity is encouraged. We’re loving this piece for its kimono-inspired details and amazing velvet texture, and the mix of floral patterns is a fun twist. When styling heavily patterned pieces, it’s important to stick to a colour palette – so choose accessories that don’t stray too far from earthy tones like brown, gold, rust, and tan. Make the look even more special-occasion-ready with a pair of dangly earrings and a rhinestone clutch. A shorter heel is a safe, comfortable option if you plan to spend the night on the dancefloor.

Long red gown

Attention, all you daring gals out there! This show-stopper of a dress is sure to make you the centre of attention – after the bride, of course. ;) Hot red is a statement in itself, but we recommend going all out with equally bold accessories. Red and green are complementary colours and look striking when paired together. And no – the combo won’t look like Christmas when you choose the right pieces and include hints of additional jewel tones. We’re also obsessed with the thigh-high slit right now, and celebs are embracing this style on nearly every red carpet. Top the look off with a chic leather cape in case the night gets chilly.

Pastel pink flared dress

If you can’t resist an opportunity to look ultra-feminine, a wedding is your time to shine. If you also want something that flatters your shape (who doesn’t?), look to this soft pink dress with a fitted top and pleated skirt. The pastel pink is ideal for winter weddings – it looks gorgeous against a snowy backdrop, and you’ll look cute as a button. A classic heel in a matching colour only enhances the ultra-feminine effect, and a fun, glitter-filled clutch adds a playful touch to the ensemble.

Black bell sleeve dress

Many of us tend to go for black dresses whenever a formal event comes up, but that LBD doesn’t need to be boring. The best part about wearing black is that you can get away with dramatic styles that have bold, unique details. We love this unique cold shoulder dress with drapey bell sleeves that are perfect for a cool winter wedding. We guarantee you’ll feel like Angelina Jolie in this number, especially when you top it off with all-black accessories and a dramatic clutch (featuring a golden snake, obviously).
