Obsession is an understatement when it comes to our love for Game of Thrones. We’ve been fans of the show since 2011, and seeing them clean up at this year’s Emmy Awards made us so proud. This past season was extra special for us since many of the female characters really came into their own – like Sansa and Daenerys. Now with Halloween right around the corner, we’re showing you how to impress everyone at your costume party by bringing our two favourite characters to life. Watch the video to see the full process, and read on for some key tips for each.

Sansa Stark

Hair: Given that Sansa was pretty busy this season escaping Ramsay Bolton and taking back Winterfell, her hairstyles were decidedly more utilitarian than in seasons past. Start with small, tight French braids on either side of your head, and combine them to form one long braid down your back.

Makeup: Sansa doesn’t wear much makeup, so less is more. Go for a light brow and a hint of brown eyeshadow. Pale pink blush and a swipe of lip gloss will give you Sansa’s youthful glow.

Outfit: In the most recent season, Sansa really came into her own as a strong young woman. This costume commands authority with bold, mature pieces. A long black dress cinched with a thick leather belt is perfectly Sansa, while a fur vest represents her northern roots. Finish the look with black ankle boots that look made for kicking butt.

Daenerys Targaryen

Hair: Daenerys’ hair is her trademark, and she knows it. Start with tousled, wavy hair, and braid back some pieces in the front as shown (hint – we used a rope braid here). Be sure to leave some tendrils in the front to get Daenerys’ signature look. Bonus points if you get your hands on a stunning, white-blonde wig.

Makeup: Daenerys has some impressive brows. Play up your brows by making them a little darker than usual with a powder or pomade. Apply a heavier contour to mimic her structured cheekbones, and add a hint of colour to your lips.

Outfit: Daenerys is known for wearing blue, so this drapey tunic couldn’t be more perfect. Pair with suede tights and knee-high boots to achieve her signature layered look. To fully transform into the Mother of Dragons, use a navy blanket scarf as a cape, draped over one shoulder for extra drama. And don’t forget statement jewellery!
