Style Guide: Fall’s Hottest Denim

fashion

With cooler temperatures on the way, it's time to stash our shorts and take a good hard look at our denim situation. And let’s be real – our jean obsession knows no bounds! Distressed, lacquered, skinny – we've got love for ‘em all. But, as always, a few styles rose to the top this season as definite must-haves. From biker chic to slouchy boyfriends, fall’s top denim trends are all about texture, details, and classic cuts.

Here are five pairs that we’d like to hang directly in our closet:

1. The Moto Jean:

If you’re a skinny-jeans gal and aren’t looking to step too far outside your comfort zone, the moto might be the perfect pair for you to add to your arsenal this season. The ribbed-knee detail gives a hint of biker flare, and is a refreshing departure from the basic skinny. If your day-to-day style leans towards business-casual, moto denim is a fun way to mix an edgier element into your workday attire. Motos work equally well with a simple white blouse, or a graphic tee and leather jacket combo.

2. The Lacquered Jean:

Everyone should own a pair of black jeans. And if they’re lacquered, well, that’s even better. These glossy, leather-like jeans are STUNNING, and anything but basic. Wear them with a white tank, a killer Chelsea boot, and a plaid button-up tied around your waist. The slight sheen is also perfect for a night out and looks great with a sheer, understated top. Finish the look with heels, blingy jewels, and a fold-over clutch for a stylish appearance at the closest lounge for some well-deserved downtime.

3. The Mid-Rise Skinny Jean:

We love the mid-rise cut because of how they manage to sit so perfectly at our hips. (And you don’t have to be Heidi Klum to pull them off!) Although a higher rise has been trending for a couple of seasons now, it’s how you style them that can be entirely unique. They’re begging to be paired with a patterned button-up and a standout purse. A circle scarf and staple army jacket also work great with the mid-rise jean. Elevate the look with delicate accessories for a day of shopping and gallery hopping.

4. The Boyfriend Jean:

We’ve never wanted the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans more than we do right now. Besides their laid-back, never clingy, California vibe, we love how they add instant cool-factor to any look. Think you could never take your boyfriend jeans to the office? Why not! The trick is to pair them with the right pieces: strappy heels, a statement necklace, and a chic blazer will do the trick. Cuff the jeans, and you’re ready to take on the day. These also go perfectly with a pair of Birkenstocks or Doc Martens if you’re going for a more casual look.

5. The Bootcut Jean:

While this style hasn’t been seen much since the early ‘00s, it’s safe to say that the bootcut jean is back, and has some serious staying power. The cut accentuates our curves, balances proportions, and hugs us in all the right places. Bootcuts are not to be confused with classic flare jeans – this style is straight through the thigh, with a subtle flare just below the knee. It’s almost as if they were made for a perfectly fitting tee, boho jewellery, and ankle boots...how Jennifer Aniston of us! To give the illusion of legs for days, just toss on a pair of high heels under your bootcuts for that elongated, Karlie Kloss silhouette.
